Kontron supports TEM infrastructure system solutions with rock-solid and reliable next generation carrier grade server

Augsburg, GERMANY, June 10, 2015 – Kontron, a leading supplier of embedded computing technology (ECT),  announced today the general availability of the long-life CG2300 2U carrier grade server intended to support the evolution of central office network applications designed by telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) who are required to deploy High Availability (5 nines) and NEBS (Level 3) / ETSI certified systems for their carrier clients’ networks.
 
The mission-critical “always-on” nature of telecommunications services deployed from space constrained environments still dictates the use of carrier-grade, NEBS or ETSI-certified servers. These servers typically need to be short in depth, highly ruggedized, support multiple third party hardware add-ons, and feature next generation Intel® multi-core compute performance.
 
The CG2300 fits this profile with a ‘dual-socket’ design that supports Intel® Xeon E5-2600 v3 (up to)
16-core processors, plus an exceptional array of options for high memory, flexible I/O and storage, and dual redundant AC or DC power – all in a compact 2U, 20-inch deep form factor.
 
The 22nm Intel® Xeon™ Processor E5 v3 family introduces a multitude of enhancements intended to significantly improve processor performance over previous generations, plus provide lower latency and intelligently save on power. Additional benefits from this Intel chipset include:
 
▶   Massive I/O bandwidth increase: total of 40 lanes / CPU;
▶   Faster memory bandwidth: each processor has 8 channels running up to 2133MHz, a
29% increase over previous Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 v2;
▶   More cores, similar power budget: single CPU supports up to 16 cores (32 threads) with the same power budget that allowed only up to 10 cores previously; dual-socket supplies
32 cores (64 threads).
