CP6000-V: Kontron's new Value Line 6U CompactPCI CPU Board with 1 GHz

Full performance for slender budgets

Kaufbeuren, Germany, 27 September, 2005 - Kontron Modular Computers introduces the CP6000-V, a new 6U Value Line CompactPCI-Board. It can be equipped with a 1 GHz or 800 MHz Intel® Celeron® processor, and is specially designed for price-sensitive applications. The hotswap-capable CPU board is equipped with a variety of interfaces, including four USB 2.0 ports and two Gigabit-Ethernet interfaces, which can be implemented so that they are accessible via the front panel or, alternatively, via the backplane in accordance with PICMG 2.16, which allows for wireless switched fabrics. In addition, there are two serial interfaces and the usual connections for keyboard, floppy, and graphics (VGA CRT with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels).

In this cost/performance optimized solution, the Intel® Celeron® processor in the CP6000-V works together with the 855GME chipset. With two Gigabit-Ethernet interfaces – accessible via the front panel or via the rear J3 connector in accordance with PICMG 2.16 – the CPU board is designed for demanding, cost-sensitive applications such as those found in automation technology.

The highly integrated and compact CP6000-V offers powerful PCI-X performance to the PMC slot, an optional SATA or IDE 2.5-inch hard drive, and CompactFlash on board. All these features can be used simultaneously by the CP6000-V. This is made possible by the Intel 6300ESB I/O controller hub, which offers the latest I/O technology such as Serial-ATA150, USB 2.0, and two PCI buses. At 480 Mbit/s, USB 2.0 transfers data 40 times faster than USB 1.0. Fast and reliable RAM (ECC) delivers up to 2 GB SDRAM with PC333 on two 200-pin SODIMM sockets. The 855GME chipset’s integrated graphics controller produces high-resolution images and multimedia-quality video. The controller has Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Technology (2D/3D graphics accelerator), which shows screen displays with a resolution of 2048x1536x8bit/60Hz. Besides VGA, USB, and COM interfaces, the CP6000-V offers a row of user-programmable LEDs on the front panel that can be used for debugging and diagnostics.

Through Kontron’s optional PMC cards, the CP6000-V can be enhanced with Ultra 160/320 SCSI or additional Gigabit-Ethernet ports at any time.

Samples of the CP6000-V are available now. Mass production will begin in Q1 2006.

The right housing
In its cost-optimized XL Pocket housing, the CP6000-V can compete with top-hat rail computers / DIN rail PCs and industrial PCs, which up to now have had a price advantage, but are rather difficult to adapt to different uses. While assemblies in a CompactPCI system can be swapped from the front, top-hat rail computers and IPCs, with their closed housings, generally require costly installation work. Thus, the new CompactPCI system offers more convenience and flexibility at a price comparable to that of top-hat rail computers and IPCs.
