Kontron Mobile Computing Announces Results for Second Quarter 2002

Reports Sixth Consecutive Quarter of Positive Operating Income; Net Loss of $.01 Per Share

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - (Aug. 14, 2002) - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), today announced financial results for second quarter 2002 -- the sixth consecutive quarter for which the company has reported positive operating income.

The company, a leading supplier of rugged, mobile computers for field-deployed professionals, reported operating income of $33,000 for second quarter 2002, compared to $909,870 for second quarter 2001. Net loss for second quarter 2002 was $211,144, or $.01 per share, on revenues of $2.3 million, compared to net profit of $460,565, or $.03 per share, on revenues of $4.9 million for second quarter 2001. Year-to-date net loss was $37,539, or $.00 per share, on revenues of $5.5 million, compared to net profit of $1,014,908, or $.07 per share, on revenues of $9.9 million during the same period in 2001.

"Like many companies in the electronics industry, we found that the recent economic slowdown affected the IT spending decisions of many of our customers during the second quarter, particularly those in the government and public safety sectors," said Thomas Sparrvik, CEO. "Our lower revenues reflect that fact, and while we see the purchasing climate improving, we expect that our industry will face continuing challenges in this regard for the balance of 2002. We´re pleased, however, to again report positive operating income, which we attribute to the cost reduction program we implemented in previous quarters.
