Kontron Mobile Computing Announces Sunlight Readable Transflective Display Option for Fieldworks 8000

Displays Bright, Easy-to-Read Images in Challenging Field Lighting

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. May 16, 2002 - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), today announced the availability of a Sunlight Readable Transflective Display option for the FieldWorks 8000, one of the flagship products in the company´s line of rugged, mobile computers for field-deployed professionals.
"The FieldWorks 8000 delivers the power of rugged, desktop computing in a mobile platform for professionals working in a variety of challenging field conditions, from flightline communications to geophysical, defense, test and measurement and field data acquisition environments," said Steve Hanges, director of marketing. The Sunlight Readable Transflective Display is a perfect choice for these customers because it provides continuous and easy-to-read access to screen data in any lighting condition from direct sunlight to total darkness."
The Sunlight Readable Transflective Display is a color, active-matrix, liquid-crystal display with an integral, thin film transistor as the active element. It is a 12.1-inch, transflective-style display with SVGA resolution (800 x 600) of more than 262K colors. It functions in a transmissive and reflective mode for indoor or outdoor use, displaying bright, clear, screen images in direct sunlight as well as low-light conditions.

The Sunlight Readable Transflective Display option is available for an additional $795. The FieldWorks 8000 continues to offer the features and options that have established it as a premier field computing product, including ruggedness tested to Mil-Std-810E military standards to withstand shock (75G) and vibration; an expansion card cage for maximum adaptability with full power supply and connection for up to three full-length or six half-length ISA or PCI expansion cards; and active cooling technology allowing for operation in wide temperature ranges.
