At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron names Farhad Sharifi Director of Sales for North America
Over 15 years of embedded computing experience
Poway, CA, March, 30 2010 – Kontron has named Farhad Sharifi its Director of Sales, North America and will report directly to Mike Kadri, Vice President of Sales, North America. Mr. Sharifi brings over 15 years of embedded computing industry experience to Kontron. Throughout his career, he has held various leadership roles, including: Product Management, Sales Management, as well as, previously managing Kontron’s Embedded Systems division for North America from 2006-2008.
“I have every confidence that he will be a key contributor on our growth path to a billion dollar a year company,” says Kadri. “He knows this industry and embedded computing very well. His experience and knowledge is a true asset in enabling Kontron to continue serving our customers with the highest-level of service and technology they have come to expect.”
Mr. Sharifi will be based at Kontron’s North America Headquarters in Poway, CA.
