Kontron Offers New ATX Motherboard for Embedded and Desktop Processors up to Intel® CoreTM2 Extreme

Kontron KT965/ATX: Up to 4 cores

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 4, 2007 - Today, Kontron announced the Kontron KT965/ATX embedded ATX motherboard. The Kontron KT965/ATX is a new long life ATX motherboard based on the latest Intel® Q965 Express chipset that supports the high-performance low power 64 Bit Intel® Core™2 Duo E6400 desktop processor and 2 MByte L2 cache.

Variants with Intel® Core2 Extreme (QX6700) or Intel® Core2 Quad (Q6600) are available on demand. These latest processors out of the Intel® desktop roadmap deliver extreme performance with up to 4x 2,66 GHz clock speed and 2x 4MByte L2 cache with up to 130W TDP. Compared to smaller embedded form factors like mini-ITX the ATX sized Kontron KT965/ATX delivers the widest range of interfaces and is designed for market segments requiring long time availability such as data communication, medical applications (i.e. ultrasound), multimedia and gaming. These market segments will not only benefit from the increased computing power and better performance-per-watt that the Kontron KT965/ATX offers, but also the increased graphical performance with integrated GMA 3000 graphics engine as well through PCI Express x16.

Compared to its predecessor Intel® Pentium® D processor, the Intel Core 2 Duo series offers approximately 40 percent more application performance and 40 percent less power consumption (65W). The new Intel Q965 Express chipset features a front side bus with 1,066 MHz. Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, a feature of Intel Core Microarchitecture, delivers up to four instead of three instructions per clock cycle, allowing the platform to deliver a theoretical advantage of 33 percent increased processing performance right from the start, compared to current desktop CPUs from competitive vendors.

Besides being based on the latest Intel chipset & processor technology, the Kontron KT965/ATX is designed with a wide range of I/O features witch exceed the latest standard offerings for embedded motherboards:

• 6x PCI slots (KT965/ATXP) or 5 PCI slots and one PCI Express x4 slot (KT965/ATXE)
• CRT / PCI-Express x16 / SDVO
• 1x mini PCI-Express connector sockets (optional)
• 6x SATA SATA150/300 w. RAID 0/1/5/10
• 10x USB 2.0
• 2x RS232C
• 2x IEEE1394(400a)
• 2x GbE LAN, LPT
• compact flash socket
• 7.1ch HDA sound
• GPIOs.

Like Kontron’s other embedded motherboards, the Kontron KT965/ATX has more than five years of product availability and offers various hardware monitoring functions through Kontron’s API interface software. The Kontron KT965/ATX supports Windows XP, Vista and Linux and will be available in Q2, 2007. Call for pricing and availability.
