Kontron announces deployment of next-generation avionics products

In multiple commercial installations, passenger and aircraft communications are enhanced by using ACE Flight Server 4600 with 4G LTE and Cab-n-Connect A100 supporting 802.11ac

Augsburg, Germany, September 24, 2015Kontron, a global market leader for embedded computing technology (ECT) today announced that several commercial airlines and business jet customers plan to deploy the company’s next-generation avionics products.  Kontron’s recent launch of its ACE Flight Server 4600 featuring a 4G LTE modem for enhanced ground connectivity and its Cab-n-Connect™ A100 wireless access point (CWAP) that forms the backbone of onboard Wi-Fi systems has resulted in multiple planned aircraft installations.  These advanced products are backed by Kontron’s more than 30 years of design expertise engineering avionics products which have resulted in the industry’s most cost effective certified In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFE&C) open platform solutions in the market.
Kontron’s next generation avionics products include its ACE Flight 4600 with 4G LTE connectivity, which is a complete, highly integrated application-ready platform, qualified to D0-160G and optimized for a full range of flight information systems. The ACE Flight 4600 provides an ideal platform to build a whole range of services including crew and passenger web, flight maintenance or manifest, connectivity, wireless content and IFE. The Cab-n-Connect A100, based on the latest IEEE 802.11ac WiFi standard, delivers significantly increased data throughput and multiple technology advancements that include 3X3 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) performance with  dual integrated Wi-Fi radios (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and three spatial data streams per radio. These features and performance increases give airlines sizeable bandwidth efficiency and operational improvements.
“As a premier supplier of avionics solutions, Kontron’s focus is on the integration of 4G LTE and 802.11ac high-speed connectivity technologies into our proven computing systems,” said RJ McLaren, Kontron Avionics Product Manager.  “These important building blocks allow our customers to deliver complete solutions that not only match today’s passenger connectivity and media expectations for an elevated entertainment experience, but also satisfy cockpit, maintenance operations and crew service communications needs from a single, trusted source.”
Kontron will demonstrate how its open-architecture avionics products enable new revenue streams, enhance the passenger experience and support improved crew communications at the upcoming APEX Expo, September 28 – October 1 in Portland, Oregon.  Kontron’s complete portfolio of innovative avionics products will be showcased at Kontron’s booth #660.
Both the Kontron ACE Flight Server 4600 with 4G LTE and the Cab-n-Connect A100 supporting 802.11ac are available now with PMA certification planned by Q4 2015.  For more detailed information on Kontron’s full line of commercial avionics products, please visit: http://www.kontron.com/industries/avionics
