Electro- Mechanical Test & Integration Technician II

Job Type: Temporary/Contract

Within the Operations Department, this individual is capable of performing all tasks required to build a wide variety of electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies. Follows defined methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, soldering, cable and harness assembly, subassemblies, chassis and racks. Is capable of independent setup and has the ability to maintain tolerances to meet product specification to acceptable workmanship standards. Is capable of performing routine go/no-go tests on circuits, components, sub-assemblies chassis and rack assemblies. With support from Test Engineering, may create and define testing methodologies, tools, equipment, ability to develop automated tests, etc. Documents and interprets test results. Capable of performing repair and replacement of defective components and performing defect trend analysis. Capable of creating and maintaining logs to record test results.      

Your duties

• Performs tests and calibrates parts to meet tolerances and product specifications • Ability to troubleshoot assemblies, sub-assemblies and circuit cards down to the component level. • Must be proficient in the use of a wide variety of electronic test equipment and have the ability to learn how to use new tools or equipment quickly • Ability to run Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Automated Test Procedures (ATP) from engineering documents • Capable of performing “proof tests” for new or revised test procedures and recommend enhancements to the procedure. • Thorough knowledge of Kontron Production and Inventory Control system • Requires knowledge of computer operating systems (i.e. Windows, Unix, Linux, etc) and have intermediate level knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software conflicts. • May assist Engineering with document development • Ability to sketch complex cable designs, select components and define tooling requirements • Ability to identify and order necessary materials and tooling for specific jobs. • Responsible for maintaining logs and data sheets and insuring test procedures are to the latest revision. May create test logs as deemed necessary. • Performs other duties as assigned by management that could include assembly of fabricated parts, subassemblies or complete units • Must be able to read blueprints and follow manufacturing assembly instructions • Must be familiar with a variety of industry concepts, practices, procedures and workmanship standards • Must rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals • Experience with processing Customer Return Units (RMAs) • Upgrade and repair hardware as well as record data and research hardware issues • Complete accurate defective part documentation • Experience with processing Customer Returned Goods (RMAs). • Ability to accurately identify failures, document the failure condition, initiate the ordering of items for repair and perform the repairs • Ability to perform simple failure mode effect analysis and formally document the results. • Ability to provide feedback to QA and department supervision of any observed trends, unusual failure conditions or exceptions to accepted Standards • Will aid and train less experienced personnel • Monitors and maintains a safe work environment • Monitors and maintains good housekeeping standards within the manufacturing area   • Ability to communicate effectively with production assemblers, QA/QC inspectors, engineers, program mangers, stock handlers, buyers, and other operations personnel. • May at times be called upon to work with customer personnel on-site during Customer Factory Acceptance Testing. May require travel to customer sites for field service related activities. • This individual may support Engineering by building First Article Assemblies and document the processes. This individual may be required to perform special tests working from instructions or unreleased documentation. • At times may be called upon to assist Test Engineering or other engineering departments needing technical assistance.

Skills required

• Minimum 2 - 4 years of directly related work experience in electronics manufacturing and test. At a minimum, this would include basic understanding of electronics testing and on-the-job training in a test environment using test equipment and applying troubleshooting techniques. • College level course work and substantial formal training in electronic and electro-mechanical assembly and testing required. • Experience with computers is required. • Experience with Windows environment and Microsoft Office products are desired. • Experience with Local Area Networks (LANs), network interface boards, routers and other related hardware is desirable. • Experience or training in computer programming or software troubleshooting is desired. • Thorough understanding of electro-mechanical assembly and testing methodologies and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks required. • Ability to work on assignments that are considered difficult in nature. • Ability to recognize deviation from acceptable practices or standards and make recommendations for improvements. • Ability to complete tasks with only general instructions on new tasks and requires minimal supervision.
