At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Adhoc: Kontron AG sells stake in ubitronix and plans the sale of its RTSoft share
Eching near Munich, 20 March 2014 – Kontron AG has sold its stake in ubitronix system solutions GmbH. Kontron also plans to dispose of its share in Affair 000 with its further Russian participations RTSoft Project, RTSoft ZAO and Training Center RTSoft. The company is already engaged in concrete sales negotiations and expects to conclude the sale during the summer of this year. In 2013, ubitronix and RTSoft accounted for approximately EUR 80 million, representing about 15 percent of Kontron AG’s total revenues.lala
In the financial statements for 2013 of Kontron AG, the Project Business Energy combining the activities of RTSoft and ubitronix will be reported separately as discontinued operations. Kontron will adjust its current forecasts accordingly when it publishes the results for financial year 2013 on 25 March 2014.
