FIRST DUAL-CORE BASED ETXEXPRESS MODULE RAISES PERFORMANCE BAR FOR EMBEDDED APPLICATIONS

Kontron ETXexpress-CD with Intel® Core® Technology -- Unparalleled Power-Performance Ratio

FREMONT, CA -- April 4, 2006 -- Kontron, a leading embedded computer technology company, today announced the release of the ETXexpress-CD computer-on-module (COM) that integrates the new Intel® Core® Duo processor. Kontron´s ETXexpress-CD module is designed in accordance with the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers´ Group (PICMG) COM Express standard for Basic Form Factor modules (95mm x 125mm) and fulfills the requirement of future-focused embedded applications that demand exceptionally high performance levels. The new Core Duo processors allow for up to 80 percent performance increase compare to single core technology.

The Kontron ETXexpress-CD is equipped with the Intel Core Duo processor, Mobile Intel® 945 GM Express chipset, and the ICH7M Southbridge so that it can deliver up to 2x 2GHz processor performance and support up to 2GB of DDR2-SDRAM. This new COM product features 5x PCI Express x1 lanes and 1x Gigabit Ethernet in addition to legacy support for PCI plus LPC, 8x USB 2.0, 2x Serial ATA, and 1x Parallel ATA interfaces. CRT and LVDS outputs are available to drive high resolution for true color monitors and displays. Support for PCI Express based Graphics cards for video-intensive applications also is available. A family feature inherited from Kontron´s ETX computer-on-modules, ETXexpress modules and customizable carrier boards offer "plug and work" LCD display support with readily available adapter cables based on Kontron´s JILI interface.

Kontron anticipates having sample ETXexpress-CD modules available by the May with prices starting at $800 in small quantities, price will vary upon CPU speed. Kontron is showing this new ETXexpress product and others during this week´s Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, California, at the McEnery Convention Center (booth #536).
