At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron AG Focuses on US Investor Markets
Eching, Germany (near Munich), December 12, 2004. Kontron AG as listed on the TecDAX, has done a private placement of 500,000 shares directly to American institutional investors. The German-based embedded computer supplier confirms its strategy to increase its shareholder base especially in the USA. Hannes Niederhauser, CEO of Kontron AG, states; "Based on the strategic importance of the American market it is key for Kontron to get US investors interested in Kontron for our continued growth and success." In October 2004, Kontron AG appointed Charles Newcomb, located in the United States, to the position of CFO and initiated this new strategy for addressing the US-investor market. There are no plans to do a NASDAQ listing at this time.
