At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron AG: Groundbreaking for Technology Campus in Augsburg
Augsburg, 5 June 2014 – Kontron AG, a leading global provider of Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), has held its groundbreaking ceremony on 4 June 2014, thus symbolically commencing construction of a new office building at its Augsburg site. In the context of the company’s site consolidation, this project will give rise to a cutting-edge technology campus, comprising a research & development center as well as office buildings.
The facility, in which Kontron is to be the only tenant, will have a modular structure, and will be assembled from pre-manufactured components. The new building, along with an existing and recently refurbished structure, will accommodate about 400 employees from Q4 2014.
