At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron Continues Upswing
Eching near Munich, Germany April 18, 2002 - Kontron Embedded Computers AG has achieved a turnover of approximately 47 million euros in the first quarter of 2002 in spite of the continued poor state of the global economy and has thus underlined the upswing of the fourth quarter of 2001 (48 million euros). Orders on hand as of March 31st of this year are in excess of 50 million euros.
According to the Kontron Board, this positive development can be traced back to good growth rates on the European market. The Kontron Board is optimistic especially with regard to the planned fusion with JUMPtec Industrielle Computertechnik AG in Deggendorf around the middle of the year. Together orders on hand amount to approximately 100 million euros which represents a solid basis for growth. The final and detailed figures for the first quarter are to be published at the end of May.
