Kontron Introduces Embedded Computing Board Featuring Two Low Voltage Intel® Xeon® Processors at 1.8 GHz, Two Dual Fibre Channel and Two Dual Gigabit Ethernet Controllers

Intel Developers Forum, San Jose, CA, September 2002 - Kontron, a leading global embedded computer technology company, today announced the availability of its latest embedded computing board featuring dual Low Voltage Intel® Xeon® processors at 1.8 GHz (other processor speeds and grades are available from Kontron upon request). Designated MBATX-DE7500-F4G4, the new board is ideal for embedded networking appliances and other applications requiring extreme high-end I/O capability.

The MBATX-DE7500-F4G4 embedded computer board is based on the Intel E7500 chipset and provides two processor sockets, four DDR-200 DIMM memory sockets, one ATA-100 IDE drive connector, two USB headers, five 64-Bit 100 MHz PCI slots or three
64-Bit 133 MHz PCI slots and one 32-Bit 33 MHz PCI slot. The board also comes with two 10/100 Fast Ethernet, two dual Gigabit Ethernet, and two dual Fibre Channel controllers.

"The network appliance market segment has tight requirements on enclosure heights, thermal solutions, reliability, noise and cost competitiveness. It also demands scalability across multiple platforms and peripherals," said Joe Jensen, general manager, Embedded Intel Architecture Division. "Featuring Hyper-Threading Technology, the Low Voltage Intel Xeon processor provides high performance in a reduced power envelope, enabling Kontron to develop network appliance solutions that help its customers to bring standards-based, high performance products to market faster."

"The MBATX-DE7500-F4G4 marries the impressive performance of dual Low Voltage Intel Xeon processors at a manageable thermal envelope with the high I/O bandwidth the Intel? E7500 chipset provides, delivering to our customers a high performing solution in a form factor specifically engineered to meet their particular multimedia and interoperability design challenges and constant cost and time-to-market pressures," said Bryan Murphy, VP Engineering, Kontron America.

In addition to customer-specific designs, MBATX-DE7500-F4G4 boards can be easily integrated into Kontrons award-winning Omnix series chassis, which range from 1U to 6U with multiple system configuration options for applications such as networking, VPN, attached storage networks, kiosk and transaction terminals, among others.

The MBATX-DE7500-F4G4 embedded computer board is on display in the Intel Technology Showcase at the Intel pavilion during the Intel Developer Forum (IDF Fall, 2002), San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA from September 9 - 12, 2002. MBATX-DE7500-F4G4 samples will be available in October. Volume production is expected for Q4, 2002.
