Represents a New Class of Embedded Computers for Use in Wide Range of OEM Devices
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - (Nov. 18, 2003) - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), today unveiled its newest technology -- a rugged embedded computing module (ECM) designed for use by OEMs as a technology building block for a wide variety of application-specific systems.
The small form factor ECM represents a new class of embedded computers with control boards housed in a secure module that can be combined with other technologies within larger systems. At 6.5"(L) x 4"(W) x 1.8"(H), it is small enough to be incorporated into wearable systems, yet with Mil-Std-certified packaging, it is sufficiently rugged for use in military and industrial harsh environments.
"The development of the ECM is a natural extension of our core rugged computing expertise," said Brian Malmberg, vice president, sales. "For more than a decade, Kontron Mobile Computing has led in the development of rugged PC platforms for a variety of markets and applications. As an affiliate of Kontron, the world leader in embedded PC boards, we´ve created a self-contained, small form factor embedded PC for high-density, rugged computing applications. With the ECM, we´re responding to the emerging need for smaller, lighter, rugged platforms that can be integrated into a variety of OEM configurations, from rack mounts to in-vehicle, wearable and other custom packages."
The Kontron Mobile Computing ECM features a 1.7GHz Intel® Pentium M® processor, 1GB of DDR RAM, 1GB cache, integrated 802.11b wireless networking capabilities, a rugged, removable 40-60GB hard drive, a low-EMI design, and one docking connector managing all I/O devices including a full PCI bus. It is resistant to water as well as extremes in shock, vibration, temperature, humidity and altitude.
Kontron Mobile Computing offers custom I/O and docking solutions for the ECM, making it the most customizable PC module available. Kontron Mobile Computing also offers engineering services for custom packaging.
The ECM will be available to OEMs in early 2004. More details about the ECM, including pricing and specific availability, will be announced at a later date. Customers may contact Kontron Mobile Computing at 1-888-343-5396 for more information.
