Kontron Mobile Computing Launches Next-Generation FieldWorks 8000 Rugged Portable Workstation

Rugged, portable computer now shipping; features 750 MHz Intel Pentium III Processor

Eden Prairie, Minn., July 9, 2001 - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), a leading supplier of rugged, mobile computers for field-deployed professionals, today announced that it has started shipping the newest version of one of its flagship products - the FieldWorks 8000 Rugged Portable WorkStation.

The FieldWorks 8000 now features performance and functionality enhancements including a 750 MHz Intel Pentium III processor, up to 256 MB of RAM and up to two, 20 GB removable hard drives. Popular with users in government, military and industrial environments, the FieldWorks 8000 delivers dependable reliability for critical applications in telemetry, data acquisition, test and measurement, and more.

Kontron Mobile Computing, which changed its name from FieldWorks, Inc., earlier this year, now uses the name "FieldWorks" as a brand name for several of its most rugged COTS products within its full line of mobile computers.

The FieldWorks 8000 continues to offer the features and options that established it as a premier field computing product, including ruggedness tested to Mil-Std-810E military standards to withstand shock (75G) and vibration; an expansion card cage for maximum adaptability with full power supply and connection for up to three full-length or six half-length ISA or PCI expansion cards; and active cooling technology allowing for operation in wide temperature ranges as well as optional sealing components for added protection against dust, rain, and humidity.
